There’s a whole lot of shoe flaunting going on in the ladies high-heel designer world. To show it all off, Marie Claire’s newest Italian photo shoot, amongst the many sexy shoes portrayed, are a pair of reverse heels (referred to as Anti-Heels), which Nina Ricci has also created in a similar backwards heel style in red and black.

And transparent heels seem to be everywhere from Dsquared2 to Prada 2010 platform collections and Fendi’s glassy transparent heels.

Then there’s the hot Greek designer, Stathis Samantas, who’s so hot he doesn’t even have a shop or an outlet yet, but has managed to create a delicate strappy line that’s been showcased on Trend Hunter and likened to the feminine elegance of Coco Chanel – not bad a for a beginner.

And how about Nicholas Kirkwood designs – front platform stiletto futuristic-retro, exhibited on the runway with feathers (although feathers are not included if you buy them).

Nicholas Kirkwood also makes fabulous navy blue wedges and leather pumps with wedge heels that are great for the office, not just these runaway models.

Christian Dior figures into the shoe flaunting action going for retro 70’s or 80’s platform wedge shoes. There’s a wedge shoe in vibrant purple and few hot pink wedge shoes designs replete with sparkling black stockings…while we’re not sure where people wear purple wedge shoes with sparkling socks it’s possible they’re not observed on the street because they’re party shoes.

Although Diego Dolcini is a busy man with Dolce & Gabbana he’s had time to create a little shoe action with his own stravaganza di forme e colori in wedge shoes and wedge sandals for his latest collection.

Design genius Christian Werner has come up with a translucent sculptured wedge sandal using nothing more than a clear wedge heel and flowing peach ribbons – a sweet sorbet for feet!

Then there’s a snow white Balenciaga wedge boot that camouflages the high wedge heel in a tall shapeless white on white form that may be molto trendy in the Italian Alps after a day of skiing in Cervinia. Balenciaga has given white wedge shoes a whole new meaning.

The 2010 spring collections could not be complete without Givenchy ultra high womens wedge shoes in a stretchy African not quite animal stripe print. Givenchy’s women’s wedge shoes are usually not this avant-garde, and closed, I mean with just a teeny bit of toe peeking out. For example a more classic look for this designer is the mock croc leather wedge shoes that are also animal print wedge shoes, but a lot sexier and much more wearable.

And speaking about sexy without being overly provocative, the Givanchy line of wedges also has an ultra stylish pair of red wedge shoes, well, they’re actually wedge boots…

On the topic of boots for this coming winter season, how about something unusual like a pair of light colored boots (not the usual black or drab brown wedge shoes) and not at all like the white Balenciaga wedge boot, but more practical – a pair of grey leather wedge booties also from Givenchy that feature grey textured nappa leather and a small gold toned, back zipper closure and a leather and rubber sole for good grip even on slippery surfaces.

• Givenchy – Ankle wedge boots for $780. with polished leather, rear zip, leather sole and lots of padding, a fancy belt detail and cut-out pattern along with a round toe and a comfy wedge heel.

For the spring 2010 collection Anna Sui has outdone herself with Andy Warhol meets a roman sandal in purple! When it comes to ladies shoes Anna Sui goes all out, and this season it is all about purple.

Other collections have been somewhat between cowboy meets lace, and her shoes and boots are not especially feminine, but intended to be quirky and unusual. However all her creations are Italian shoes as she has them make in Italy from the best leathers.

Sui clothing and women’s shoes are as fascinating as the American designer herself, who started her career designing from an apartment and selling pieces to Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s. With Naomi Campbell she was able to organize a first runway show in ’91 and later opened a store in New York. She has always been a lavender and purple lover, and this was reflected in the paint color chosen for the shop – lavender walls and red floors. She has attracted a youthful shoe wearing crowd with a line called Dolly Girl, 2007, and a children’s line, Anna Sui Mini, 2009.

There are other stained glass shoes, if you try to search online, most are wedge sports shoes with a stained glass pattern. Totally awful colorful military camouflage sneakers, and in my opinion, less wearable than these mosaic glass heals.

If you were thinking that a pair of glass shoes would be more like the clear wedge shoes you’ve seen on the runways or the ones you read about in fairytales, they also exist and not just for runways made by designers for the rich. There are Cinderella slippers that look like glass and are made of a little more practical material – plastic. They are sold as bridal shoes and for costumes, for those want to be the bell of the ball, at least until midnight!

But you’re still hoping for a crystal high heel shoe that’s totally unwearable…well here you have it…a crystal shoe…

But I’m afraid that I’m going to have to disappoint you again…Cinderallas’ footwear was not made of glass at all…it was made of fur…because in French “verre” or glass and fur sound a little similar and that’s where the confusion arose.

A little more practical is Diane von Furstenberg’s wedge boot in brown suede with a shearling cuff and front zipper. This line also includes black wedge shoes and boots that are low to medium heel height. Diane von Furstenberg has a knack for making simple yet stunning suede wedge shoes in natural colors.

Unlike many other shoe brands, her women wedge shoes are elegant and most have heels that are contoured to be comfortable. What Differentiates Skate Sneakers From Regular Trainers and Sports Shoes?

Most skate shoes and sneakers have flat rubber soles, suede or leather uppers and extremely durable double, sometimes even triple, stitching so the shoes can really take a beating while protecting the skater’s feet during maneuvers.

The best shoes will provide protection against bruising the heels and will also offer better than average flexibility with tough, yet thinner, soles that allow the skater to actually connect with their board as well as have exceptional grip to avoid slipping. Again we see the SupraFoam midsole, the flexible board feel and the EVA sockliner.    The most unusual and sleek dressy shoes in Supras skate collections are the newest Assault designs, which as yet don’t even have a price since they’ve just been released, but amongst the styles that come in colors and can be stylish as well as practical for skating, are the ever popular Vaider Low. These offer all the same features as the others, like the vulcanized gum sole, SupraFoam midsole, mesh sockliner and flexible grip and also a sporty outer look and the choice of black or red distressed leather for just $66.

   From the new Supras shoes collections by Chad Muska, in fact his signature design, comes the latest Skytop II, released in April of 2010, and retailing for $130.    While the black supras are the most common, there are the colorful Bullet designs from the Lizard King Signature collection. From icy dripping wet unshorn sheep shag mid-calf boots with icicle heels to what looks like black plastic pumps over white leggings, the masterful designer has captured the essence of our retro paranoiac cave-dweller technology induced ice-age times perfectly. Lagerfeld offers footwear to protect and keep us warm during this fear laden uncertain economic age. He’s a man who knows how to push fashion and social boundaries to the edge – a designer who does not hide behind mediocre or acquiesce to “normal”.

Faux or Not – Both are Hot

The knee high fur boots in the Chanel collections are all faux fur, however the Fendi line has genuine rabbit fur lining, although it’s more practically featured inside the boot for warmth rather than on the outside as a fashion statement. Be it faux or not, trust Karl Lagerfeld to deliver some kind of fur both from Fendi and the newest icy Chanel designs.

Sleek Furless Designs By Stuart Weitzman

Stuart Weitzman knee high boots and thigh-high designs in soft Vecchio nappa leather are classy and classic all the way if you have over $600 to invest in your boots this year. Although this item is made in Spain (and sometimes the Spanish, Italian and Brazilian sizes are a little on the small side) in this case the fit is perfect and true to the size you usually wear in the US.

Dolce & Gabbana Western

Totally different, but equally trendy is the D&G Knee-High Boot that’s somewhat between a cowboy and a moccasin and includes a leather fringe. What makes this creation unique is that it has a side zipper that’s secreted under leather, so the fit is more snug without appearing to alter the basic western look. These boots are for true Dolce and Gabbana aficionados because they’re retailing for almost $2,000 a pair.

Affordable Knee High Moccasin Boots

On the other extreme of the D&G expensive designer styles, there’s a very affordable pair of knee high moccasin boots, well within reach of most ladies’ budgets, sold online through Asos. They’re the Minnetonka moccasins, which are not only fitted and laced and made of suede / leather with tassel and visible stitching details, but they only cost about $177. For a snug, practical, lightweight, cozy pair of moccasins to go with casual jean outfits this is the bargain of the season. If you’re worried about keeping them looking good all winter, try to keep them as dry as possible, which means they’re best for trudging through cold snowy areas rather than slushy or rainy walkways. However, suede protector can be used to help waterproof the boots and stop them from getting matted or loosing their soft nap.

Practical, Affordable and Warm – Skechers Knee High Boots and Fur Lined Ankle Designs

Let’s go ultra practical with Skechers knee high boots, especially designed for ladies who love to hike, or at least those who want to look like they do. Not your average fashionable styling, and about as far removed from sleek and chic formfitting as it gets, but very cozy, made in suede and leather with faux fur trim, ideal for cold weather and snow. The Sketcher boots are priced from just over $50 to around $100. The item we feature is the Grand Jams design and retails for about $82.

About the only happy story to go with the demise of Faith is the opening of Hope. What? Well, when the Faith Store at the Meadows Shopping Centre, Chelmsford, closed, hopeful manager Justina Pay took advantage of the opportunity to open her own shop, naming it Hope. Although the line of ladies shoes and sandals offered at the newly re-opened shop are not the same as before, and have nothing to do with the original line of Faith shoes footwear collections or the company, it is reporting good sales. Are There Still Faith Collections Sold Through Topshop Shoes?

Unfortunately the answer to that is NO. What happened?

Similar to what happened to the well-loved Ravel Shoes who began in 1934 and who closed their doors in 2007, Faith was likewise a UK company that had massive success with their affordable trendy women’s high heel shoes since the mid 1960’s.

Also due to their affiliation with Top Shop and Debenhams in the 1990’s, the Faith brand was readily available at shops and concessions throughout the UK. However with the end of the TopShop contract in 2003, and with the only remaining shoe shop being the one at Oxford Circus, Faith was forced to open their own brand name shops.

Only a year later there were around 80 shops and more concessions, which employed over 1700 people across the UK, as well as abroad, and also the division that sold shoes online and the mail-order side of the business, but it was unable to remain afloat.

On April 22, 2010, faith footwear ceased to exist, although concessions and a few online outlets have continued to sell their last remaining remnants of inventory.

The loss of this brand of womens footwear will be felt by women around the world who loved the chic, contemporary designs that were not only stylish for eveningwear (like the many popular Faith gold shoes collections) and the shoes party girls could strut in, but the comfortable yet sassy office shoes that had support and the perfect height of heel.

So as we say goodbye to Faith Footwear with a sad glance at the styles we loved, we are now forced to look for other collections.
